As the financial crisis was spreading, the unemployment rate was continuing to rise in the developed countries in the world. The crisis had great consequences on labor market performance, labor force productivity, working hours of workers, wages, employment and unemployment in all countries of the world. Given the depth and breadth of America’s financial crisis and its impact on unemployment rate of developing countries and those involved in the crisis, in the present study, we investigated the theoretical relationship between the financial crisis and unemployment, using econometric methods in panel data framework to examine the impact of financial crisis on unemployment of a number of MENA countries in 1995-2012. Model estimation results indicate a positive impact of financial crisis on the studied country’s unemployment rate. Also the crisis caused more increase in unemployment rates in selected countries with high income than those with low-income.
